Chimanda Ngozi Adichie the Nigerian novelist, lecturer and feminist added another feather to her already well groomed cap when Maria Grazia Chiuri, (Dior’s first female creative director in 70 years!), used the artist’s powerful words to layer a political statement into a runway show.
Sitting in the front row at Dior’s show in Paris on 30 September, with Rihanna, Jennifer Lawrence and Kate Moss, Adichie watched models walk to the soundtrack of her words: We Should All Be Feminists. The models also wore t-shirts carrying the same message.
Adichie became a Millennial feminist icon after her inspiring 2013 Tedx Talk was sampled on Beyonce’s transformative “Flawless” track.
Although married to her US based Doctor husband, Dr. Ivara Esegee, Adichie, insists on being addressed as Miss and not Mrs – a stance which has won her staunch support from feminists around the world.
