Wole Soyinka, the Nigerian Nobel Prize laureate has vowed to cut up his green card if Donald Trump wins the US presidential election.

The green card is a permanent residence permit issued by US authorities to immigrants from all over the world, who meet certain criteria for settlement in the country.

Soyinka, who was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1986 apparently made the comment in a videoed discussion with students at Oxford University in the UK.

In the video Soyinka said he feared Trump would ask all green-card holders to reapply to come back into the US.

“Well, I’m not waiting for that,” the author said. “The moment they announce his [Trump’s] victory, I will cut my green card myself and start packing up.”

Among Trump’s declared policies on immigration to the US is his pledge to build a wall to keep Mexican immigrants out of the US if he makes it to the White House.

He has also said every illegal immigrant currently in the US would be subject to deportation if he wins the election.
