Senegal 0 (4)-(5) 0 Cameroon
Cameroon has advanced to the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations Afcon) after beating Senegal 5-4 on penalties on Saturday, at the Stade de Franceville in Gabon.
Senegal contributed to their own downfall by squandering a series of scoring opportunities in extra-time, including a missed penalty by one of their star players Sadio Mane who plays for Liverpool in the UK.
The game, which was billed as a clash of West African football giants, didn’t live to expectation, with Cameroon sitting back and soaking up pressure for much of the first half.
In the second half Senegal came close to scoring when Mane picked out Mane Biram Diouf, after 54 minutes. But he headed straight at the Cameroon goalkeeper, Ondoa.
Indomitable Lions’s chance to win the game before extra time came in the 67th minute when Benjamin Moukandjo’s effort from 10-yards out produced a fine save from the Senegalese goalkeeper, Abdoulaye Diallo.
With neither side failing to break the deadlock, the game went into extra-time, followed by penalties.
Two matches today will see DR Congo play Ghana at 16:00 while Egypt and Morocco will lock horns at 19:00.
