ONE man has succumbed to death at a Bulawayo hospital following the tragic collapse of the Nandos restaurant in Zimbabwe’s second largest city yesterday.
A source who contacted Team Buntu Africa from Bulawayo said the deceased was one of several people who were ferried by ambulance to hospital, after being seriously injured when the restaurant collapsed, due to heavy rains which fell in the city.
The source said scores of people were eating in the popular restaurant when the roof suddenly collapsed , trapping many beneath the rubble.
“According to an announcement in church today, the deceased was a young man who was staying with his sister at Ross Camp police station in Bulawayo,” the source said. “But they didn’t name him nor indicate his exact age.”
Another source at the Bulawayo Fire Brigade said the city had received just below 60mm of rain within 24 hours over the weekend, with flash floods causing mayhem on the roads.
Umzingwane district in Matebeleland also received above 60mm of rain within 24 hours in the aftermath of cyclone Dineo which wreaked havoc in Mozambique four days ago, with several people losing their lives.
