BEYONCE and her hubby, Jay Z, earned a combined US$147 million over the past 12 months, according to figures released recently about the chart topping couple’s fortune.
The renowned Forbes magazine has placed the African American couple – fondly known as the “royal family of showbiz – on top spot of its annual Celebrity 100 list.
Beyonce earned more than Jay Z, scooping $105 million pretax – the second-highest sum of any on-camera entertainer in the world. Top dog in this category was Diddy who earned $130 million
However, Beyonce’s wealth mostly comes from her Formation World Tour, which grossed a quarter of a billion dollars. Her Pepsi endorsement deal also significantly helps with her total.
Unlike Beyonce, Jay Z who didn’t perform many live shows over the past year, earned $42 million in that period. However, his upcoming $200 million touring deal with Live Nation is certain to increase his fortune considerably.
Jay Z also has a string of businesses, including Armand de Brignac champagne and the Roc Nation entertainment company.
Beyonce and Jay Z are also joint-owners of the streaming service Tidal which has racked in over $1 billion.
Speaking during an interview with Steve Forbes and Warren Buffet in 2011 Jay Z said taking ownership of their own brands was the secret to their success.
“For many years artists were dying broke, because the record companies took advantage of them,” he said. “As entertainers, we’re the first generation to capitalise on our talent.”
